Micro Realism: What You Need to Know Before Your Appointment

Micro realism is one of the most challenging and stunning styles of tattooing today. It involves taking a highly detailed, realistic image (like a photograph of a pet, a landscape, or a portrait) and shrinking it down into a tiny, intricate tattoo.

At Butterfly Tattoo Studio, our artists specialize in translating these complex images into permanent, miniature masterpieces. But before you book your micro realism appointment, there are a few things you need to know.

First, reference photos are everything. Because we are working on such a small scale, your reference photo needs to be incredibly high quality, well-lit, and in focus. A blurry photo cannot be turned into a sharp micro realism tattoo.

Second, placement matters. Micro realism tattoos have tiny, delicate details that can be prone to blurring over time if placed on areas of the body that see a lot of friction or sun exposure. Areas like the inner forearm or calves are usually great choices.

Finally, understand that micro realism takes time. Even though the tattoo is small, the level of detail requires immense concentration and slow, methodical work. Be prepared to sit patiently while your artist brings your vision to life.
