Tattoo Aftercare: The Ultimate Guide to Healing Fast

Getting a tattoo is only half the process; how you heal it makes up the other half. Proper aftercare is essential to ensuring your new fine line or micro realism tattoo looks as good in ten years as it does on day one.

The most important rule? Keep it clean. Wash your tattoo twice a day with warm water and a fragrance-free, antibacterial soap. Always use clean hands, and never use a washcloth or loofah, as these can harbor bacteria.

Moisturizing is key, but don't overdo it. Apply a very thin layer of tattoo-specific ointment or unscented lotion (like Cetaphil or Aquaphor). If your tattoo looks glossy or wet, you've applied too much. It needs to breathe to heal.

During the healing process (usually 2-3 weeks), you must avoid swimming pools, the ocean, bathtubs, and direct sunlight. Bali's sun is beautiful, but it is the ultimate enemy of fresh ink.

Lastly, your tattoo will itch and peel. This is completely normal! Do not scratch, pick, or pull at the peeling skin, as this can pull the ink right out of your skin. If you follow these steps, your Butterfly Tattoo Studio piece will heal perfectly.
